Rikku was in the kitchen, whipping up some sandwiches to pack away for lunch. She was feeling like a trip to the garden, just to enjoy the fantastic weather they'd been having recently, so she decided to have lunch out there. After searching the refrigerator, the young Al Bhed found everything she needed to make egg salad sandwiches. Finishing those, she put them into a basket and went back to the frige to grab a few drinks. She had made enough to for a few people to eat, in case anyone wanted to join her.

Heading out of the kitchen, Rikku headed outside.

He was a little surprised to see the other jump like that, amused and sheepish; he hadn't intended to startle her.

He accepted the drinks with another smile, though. "Looks like you've got quite the variety there... planning a picnic?" ... he couldn't remember the last time he'd gone on a picnic. The idea was actually rather pleasant, really...

"Thought you might have been someone else," Rikku sighed, feeling silly for being so jumpy.

She held up the basket. "Yeah," she said. "It's a nice day and I didn't want to stay stuck in the house and all." She grinned at Roy. "Care to join me?"

"Ah, I see." He smiled again, resting his free hand in the pocket of his pants.

He hesitated, but only for a moment, and when he smiled again it was deeper and genuine. "You're right. It's a nice day, and I'd like that. Thank you..."

Rikku grinned at him again. "Good," she said. "I was hoping someone would join me. It's not fun to eat a picnic on your own." She lead Roy outside and towards the garden.

"Besides, from what I hear, a lot of people need a break from some drama," she said. It was supposed to be an off-hand comment; she didn't know that Roy was connected to the Elric brothers, so she didn't know that he was one of the people she was talking about.

"True, true... these things are always better with company." He followed easily, drinks in hand.

He stopped at the comment, wincing just slightly. "... ah. Yeah... a break would be nice." He responded in a slight murmur, falling back into step easily and smirking a little wryly. "I've never liked drama much, anyway."

"Being alone, especially for something that's supposed to be fun, just isn't any good," Rikku said, giving a small sigh. Aside from her older brother, she'd been alone for a long time growing up.

Rikku glanced back at Roy. "I...didn't hit a soft spot, did I?" she asked. She knew she could sometimes be a bit blunt.

"I agree completely. It takes all the fun out of it if you're alone, doesn't it?" He gave Rikku an easy smile in return for that. "It's a good thing we're not alone then, isn't it?"

He paused, then shrugged a little. "It's alright. It wasn't intention, and there's no harm done." He grinned, a little wryly. "I need to stop brooding over it anyway."

"Exactly," the blonde smiled. She looked around as they entered the garden and started looking for a place to set up the lunch she'd made.

"Well, I still guess I should say I'm sorry," she said, picking out a shaded spot to sit. "I know I can be the kind of person who speaks without thinking, so I make others uncomfortable sometime."

He let her choose the spot, as this was her deal, and just followed where she led.

He laughed slightly, smile easing up again. "It's alright. Most people tell me I'm the same way, so don't worry about it." A pause, then a small grin. "And even if I'm not that way, most of my colleagues are."

Sitting down, Rikku opened up her basket and pulled out the sandwiches and other foods she'd packed, as well as paper plates and a small tablecloth to set everything on. She spread out the picnic then grinned at Roy. "Help yourself," she said.

Roy grinned back, handing her a drink in return. "Don't mind if I do." He settled onto the grass, grabbing a plate and some food and leaning back against the tree slightly, relaxing. "Looks great." He added after a moment, giving Rikku a faint grin.

Rikku accepted the drink with a smile. "Thanks!" she said, both in reply to Roy's compliment and to the offered drink. "Oh, the egg sandwiches, fair warning, have a bit of a kick to them." She'd added a couple drops of an Al Bhed seasoning to it. It was much like Tabasco sauce, but just a wee bit more flavorful.

He hesitated, one hand hovering over said sandwich, before grinning lightly. "Well, I'm game to give it a shot... I can usually handle a bit of a kick fairly well." Usually... He snagged a drink for himself as well, just in case.

"It's really good," she said, taking a sandwich for herself and taking a bite happily. After swallowing, she gave a soft sigh. "Though it really makes me miss Home." It had been difficult to find this particular seasoning after Home was destroyed.

A bit of a kick indeed. After a moment of adjustment, though, he decided it wasn't unpleasant and continued to eat, pausing at her statement as his expression softened slightly. "There are lots of things that remind us of our homes, I think... Though I believe you've been here longer than I have..." Another small pause. "It is really good." He agreed, not really knowing what to say to comfort her; he hadn't ever spoken to her in depth, and he felt a bit helpless in this situation.

Rikku nodded. "I don't even remember how long I've been here," she said. "It's really lonely sometimes, despite there being so many people." She heaved a sigh, setting her sandwich down. "If even just Yunie was here, I'd feel less lonely."

She shook her head. She hadn't come her to wallow in sadness, so why was she having such depressing thoughts?

Rikku looked over at Roy when he agreed to her statement about the food. "Told you," she grinned.

"I see... I can understand that." He sympathized quietly, before pausing slightly. "Yunie...?" Interesting name...

He grinned back easily. "So you did."

"Kinda sucks, really," Rikku gave Roy a soft, almost pained, smile. "Actually, her name is Yuna, but I call her Yunie sometimes. She's my cousin."

"Glad someone likes it," she said. "Back home, Brother, Buddy, Shinra and me were the only ones that liked it, but we're all Al Bhed, so of course we'd like our own seasoning." She gave a light-hearted laugh. "Yuna didn't like it and Paine refused to try it."

"Yeah... that's a good way to put it." He returned the slight smile, then nodded in understanding. "Ah, I see... you much be close to her."

Roy grinned faintly. "I've always had a liking for exotic foods... makes things interesting." A pause, then an arched eyebrow. "... Paine...?"

"Works for me and a good number of people here," Rikku said. She took another bite of her sandwich. "But yeah. Aside from Pop and Brother, Yunie's the only family I have."

"Well, I'm glad you like it," Rikku grinned. "Oh, Paine's one of my friends from back home. She's kinda scary in how cold she can be sometimes, but she's a great person."

He nodded slightly, thoughtfully. "I'm lucky, I suppose, in that I have people I'm familiar with here as well... though there are still people back home that I miss, of course. No family, though... not really."

"I can honestly say that I do." He responded, returning the grin with a slight one of his own. He shook his head with a small laugh. "Well, your world certainly sounds like an interesting place..."

"Share some of that luck with me?" Rikku asked, frowning lightly and leaning back, arms holding her up as she looked at the sky. "Aside from my roommate, I've got no one."

"Well, thanks," the blonde beamed. Then she let her face relax as she took in the sun. "Yeah, it's interesting. We still had fiends running around when I left and Yunie was having problems with finding her kinda-sorta-not really real boyfriend, then everything with Vegnagun...Interesting, but I don't think that was the best time for me to leave."

"If I could, I certainly would." Was the sympathetic response, sighing slightly as he shifted and leaned back against the tree, watching Rikku idly.

"... as I said. Interesting." Fiends, huh...? He wasn't sure he wanted to know... "I can't say that I left at the best time, either... I just hope things haven't gone to hell with us gone." Another faint frown, before he shrugged with a deep sigh. "Not that there's much we can do about it from here..."

"I guess I can only keep hoping that someone from my world comes here," Rikku sighed. "Heck, Leblanc would be a welcome face at this point and we usually hate each other."

"No point in worrying about it, then, I guess," she sighed. "If we can't do anything, we'll just run ourselves down thinking about what might be happening at home." Still, she wanted to know so badly how everyone was doing. Had Yuna found Tidus? Had Gippal and the other leaders stopped the fighting on their world? There was so much she worried about.
